Yiwu's foreign trade surpasses 200b yuan Jan-April

Imports and exports in Yiwu, Jinhua, Zhejiang province stood at 201.06 billion yuan ($27.81 billion) in the first four months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 22.0 percent, according to Yiwu Customs.

Exports amounted to 176.38 billion yuan, up 19.9 percent year-on-year, while imports totaled 24.68 billion yuan, an uptick of 39.5 percent year-on-year.

From January to April, Yiwu's trade with Africa, Latin America, and ASEAN reached 35.72 billion yuan, 32.28 billion yuan, and 20.91 billion yuan, respectively, marking year-on-year increases of 19.0 percent, 34.9 percent, and 38.7 percent.

The city's trade with India and Saudi Arabia reached 10.70 billion yuan and 5.18 billion yuan, respectively, with year-on-year growth rates of 23.8 percent and 25.2 percent, while its imports and exports with countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative were valued at 127.71 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 26.5 percent.

During the same period, Yiwu's exports through market procurement trade amounted to 142.99 billion yuan, up 28.1 percent year-on-year, and its general trade totaled 45.28 billion yuan, marking a year-on-year growth of 2.7 percent.

Driven by the upcoming Paris Olympics, the export demand for sports goods in Yiwu's market remained high, with a total export of sports goods and equipment worth 3.1 billion yuan from January to April, a year-on-year increase of 45.6 percent.

Yiwu exported labor-intensive products and electromechanical products worth 72.72 billion yuan and 66.91 billion yuan, year-on-year increases of 27.9 percent and 14.9 percent.

The city imported consumer goods worth 14.55 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 45.0 percent during the same period. Among these, imports of beauty, cosmetics, and personal care products amounted to 2.96 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 75.6 percent.
