Yiwu exported trunks and bags worth over 11.23 billion yuan ($1.61 billion) in the first three quarters of the year, a year-on-year increase of 72.9 percent, according to local customs.

As the world's largest distribution center for small commodities, Yiwu sells trunks and bags to many countries in Europe, the Middle East, South America, and Africa, with annual sales of nearly 20 billion yuan.

With the rapid recovery of the tourism market around the world, trunks and bags are seeing increasing sales, especially in foreign countries. The increase in raw material in prices has also increased the export price of these products.

Yiwu International Trade Market Area 2 is home to over 2,300 stores selling trunks and bags.

Shopkeeper Su Yanlin said that sales of trunks started to increase in May in Europe and the Americas. In order to reduce costs on logistics, they split each product into 12 pieces. Each standard container can carry 5,000 sets of such trunks. Before, one standard container could only have 1,000 complete trunks.

Liu Shenggao, chairman of the trunk and bagschamber of commerce in Yiwu China Small Commodity City, said that Yiwu has a complete industrial chain, strong production and design capabilities, and sufficient price advantages in trunks and bags.
