The Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce on Feb 7 published data related to the province's consumption levels during the seven-day Spring Festival holiday that spanned Jan 31 to Feb 6.

The 115 supermarkets monitored by the provincial authorities achieved 1.15 billion yuan ($181 million) in sales during the period.

Over 90 percent of the province's large-scale supermarkets, grocery markets, wet markets, and e-commerce platforms stayed open during the holiday, and kept their total daily stock of staple food, cooking oil, meat, and instant noodles at roughly 140 percent of the usual volume.

The sales of automobiles in Zhejiang surged 22 percent compared to the same holiday period last year, with electric cars being particularly popular. For example, sales of Nio electric vehicles in the provincial capital of Hangzhou during the holiday hit 19 million yuan, up 138.4 percent from the same holiday period last year.

China's hosting of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics has also driven hordes of tourists to Zhejiang's ski resorts during the holiday. Skyland, the province's largest outdoor skiing site in Anji county, saw its ticket sales double compared to last year's holiday period. Nearby hotels were fully booked throughout most of the holiday.

Meanwhile, the province's cinemas raked in ticket revenues of more than 400 million yuan.
