A freight train carrying 100 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of goods such as groceries, and solar photovoltaic products departed from Yiwu West Station for Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, on the morning of Nov 24.

The cargo on the train will be transferred to an "Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL)" ship in the port before it embarks on an ocean voyage.

This is the first time Orient Overseas (International) Limited, the shipping company that runs OOCL, is participating in sea-rail transport between Yiwu and Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, following the footsteps of CMA CGM Group and China COSCO Shipping Corporation.

The efficient, cost-effective sea-rail transport reflects the close cooperation between the railway sector, authorities of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, shipping companies, customs offices, and cargo owners.

More than 117,000 TEUs of cargo have been transported through sea-rail between Yiwu and Ningbo-Zhoushan Port so far this year, up 92 percent year-on-year. Around 20 freight train trips take place every week.
