Various activities held to celebrate Children's Day in Zhejiang

Various activities were recently held throughout Zhejiang province to celebrate Children's Day which falls on June 1.

Quzhou authorities sent new schoolbags and medical supplies to children at a school in Kaihua county and offered them free eye exams.

Provincial authorities of Zhejiang held an online Theme Day on May 30 where children from the 11 cities in the province attended an online national flag-raising ceremony and paid a tribute to those who have contributed to the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic. The children also made a vow to actively respond to the challenges in the new era and strive to make contributions to the nation's development.

Authorities in Yueqing, a county-level city of Wenzhou, sent lamps and medical supplies to the children of those who have helped on the frontlines of the epidemic, including policemen, medical staff, community workers and volunteers.

"These parents sacrificed time with their children in order to fight the epidemic. We hope that other children will also understand them and be grateful to them," said a local official. 

Authorities in Yinzhou district of Ningbo conducted a public-welfare program to offer free music classes to the children of migrant workers. 

"We hope to expose children to the beauty of traditional Chinese culture," said an organizer of the program. 

Students at an elementary school in Pinghu, a county-level city of Jiaxing, showed several students from another elementary school in Jiuzhaigou county in Sichuan province some local scenic spots online.

A charity foundation was also founded to support the growth of children in Pinghu and Jiuzhaigou.

In Jinhua, 89,702 students from 103 local elementary schools donated picture books worth more than 1 million yuan ($140,522) to children in Wunsu county in Xinjiang.
