Yiwu's online retail sales lead all counties, county-level cities

Yiwu in Zhejiang province had the highest online retail sales revenue among China's counties and county-level cities, according to a report released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the China International Electronic Commerce Center, local media reported on May 26.

Known for its small commodities trade in East China's Zhejiang province, Yiwu reported a 2019 online retail sales revenue of 158.5 billion yuan ($22.14 billion), up 15.1 percent year on year. In the first quarter of 2020, the value of online retail sales revenue was 25.25 billion yuan, the highest among the country's counties and county-level cities.

In 2019, the city introduced over 190,000 new e-commerce enterprises, up 72 percent year on year. As of December 2019, Yiwu's e-commerce enterprises had opened 170,000 accounts on domestic websites and 140,000 accounts on foreign websites.
