The Yiwu Central Hospital and China Unicom will team up to develop 5G-enabled medical services, according to a cooperation agreement signed in Yiwu, Zhejiang province on Dec 19.

5G technology, with super-fast throughput, high reliability and low latency, can apply to various treatment and healthcare scenarios. It can support highly precise and real-time transmission of massive data, to guarantee the accuracy and reliability of medical information.

"Our family doctors have already started to use 5G-enabled devices, such as portable electrocardiographs for first aids, and AR glasses for remote consultation," said a spokesperson for Yiwu Central Hospital.

China Unicom will help develop a full coverage of 5G-based network for the hospital, which will build up smart administration and lay foundation for a giant online healthcare platform for over 2 million Yiwu residents.

Through the platform, doctors can see patients' information in advance to prepare in time for an operation, which shortens the time to rescue critically ill patients, according to the spokesperson.
