Yiwu, known as the "world's supermarket" for its wholesale goods, was promoted at a news conference at the State Council Information Office in Beijing on July 12.

Che Jun, secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Yuan Jiajun, governor of Zhejiang province, introduced Yiwu when answering journalists' questions.

Yiwu currently accommodates more than 13,000 foreign merchants, as well as exports to over 200 countries and regions around the world. The Yiwu-Xinjiang-Europe train service, which made its maiden journey from Yiwu to Madrid in 2014, and the China Yiwu Imported Commodities Fair are both important platforms for Zhejiang's opening up efforts, said Che.

When answering a question about Zhejiang's digitization measures, Yuan mentioned Yiwu's pilot zone for cross-border e-commerce, which is expected to serve as an e-commerce supply center, an entrepreneur and innovation base, as well as an international logistics hub.
